Disaster Readiness for Pets |
|
Each year, we see many types of natural disasters in our country. Your family should know how to be prepared, and for many of us, that includes our pets. First, develop an evacuation plan. For pets, this may mean putting the small animals in a travel carrier in the car.
For farm animals, you should have an appropriate trailer handy and know where you can take each animal to be away from the danger.
Have a pet evacuation kit ready to go. It should contain leashes, food, bottled water, paper towels, trash bags, gloves, first aid kit, health records, and a list of contact phone numbers.

Hip to Wear a Hearing Device |
|
The first wave of baby boomers are in their sixties, and while they may be young at heart, many of their health issues are often age-related, like hearing loss. Their reluctance to own up these changes may be one of the reasons why only one out of five people who could benefit from a hearing aid actually wears one, according to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders. Singer Huey Lewis is one of the ten million baby boomers dealing with hearing loss. Thanks to new technology on the market-Huey is trying to get the word out that it is “hip” to wear a hearing device.

In his short life, Dustin Phillips has already thrown the first pitch in a major league baseball game, fought cancer and won. Now, this amazing eight year old boy is helping other kids battle the disease. The Phillips family started Pitch For Dustin, a new program to raise money for children's cancer research. They want other families to get involved too. Kids, parents, and teachers can simply play catch and collect donations based on how many pitches they throw to each other. The money goes to CureSearch National Childhood Cancer Foundation, the official charity of the Children’s Oncology Group which is a network of over 200 hospitals that specialize in treating children with cancer. Pitch For Dustin is a way for Dustin and his family to give back, so that other children with cancer can have a chance at a cure.

Botox and Cervical Dystonia |
|
When most folks think of Botox (Botulinum toxin type A), they think of Botox cosmetic as a popular physician administered aesthetic treatment. But many people forget - or don’t even know - that Botox is also used as a therapeutic treatment for people suffering from a neurological disorder that causes your neck muscles to contract so tightly-you can’t lift your chin off of your chest or move your head from side to side. It is approved by the FDA for the treatment of Cervical Dystonia. But accurate diagnosis and treatment has helped in the comeback for professional hockey player Rem Murray. At the age of 33-his career was nearly ended by the disorder.
