It's fall and getting a vaccinated from the flu makes sense for just about everyone. But
many folks shrug off getting protected because of various myths and fears.

One very common myth is the flu shot can give you the flu. Well, that is impossible
because the virus that's used to make the vaccine is not alive. Now, some people
experience some soreness where the vaccine is injected. Other side effects include
fever, muscle aches and an ill feeling for a day to two.

Another thing people tend to forget-it takes about two weeks for your flu immunization to
take effect. So if you're exposed to the flu virus before you're protected-you can get sick.

Also, many people think since they got vaccinated last year they don't need protection from
the flu this year. FALSE, each year the flu vaccine needs to be remanufactured to make
sure that it covers any new types of dangerous viruses.

Now, if you have shrugged off being vaccinated in years past because a fear of needles-
you now have no excuse to protect yourself from the flu. Talk to your doctor, there is now
a nasal spray vaccine to help fight off the flu-and that's no myth.
