Whether you're headed for the beach, the country or the big city this summer-the best prescription
for a healthy vacation is to plan ahead for Travel Emergencies. It's just as important, if not more so, that making your plane or hotel reservations.
First step, pack smart. Pack an adequate supply of prescription and over the counter medicines and
make sure to store them in the right spot. Heat and humidity can affect many medications-so avoid keeping them in a beach bag, car trunk or glove compartment. If you're flying, pack your meds in your carry-on bags-not in checked luggage. Also, keep your medications in their original containers-this will prevent any confusion about dosage, warnings etcetera.
You also want to pack a small first aid kit. it should include:
Bandages, antiseptic and antibiotic ointments, anti-itch cream, antihistamines, upset stomach
remedies, antidiarrheals, and pain relievers. And don't forget the sunscreen if you're heading somewhere sunny. If you're planning on crossing more than one time zone-it's not a bad idea to talk to your doctor or pharmacist for advice on how to correctly take your medication in this situation. You also want to check with you health insurance company to see if you're covered abroad. If not, you may be able to buy insurance through your insurer or major credit card company.
Also, before you leave American soil…be sure you have the right immunizations. You don't want to
do this last minute because some vaccinations require several doses and must be started weeks before your departure. Follow-these tips. and you'll have a safe and healthy journey. |
