New technology is opening a new world for deaf children-
children who cannot benefit from hearing aids. Now, although
this technology of cochlear implants is powerful- it takes the
power of parental support and diligence to truly see a child
benefit from this medical device. Speech therapy is usually
recommended two times a week. But parents are the primary therapists- since they spend
most of the time with the child. That's why it's so important for the child's environment to
be as rich as possible with different sounds and speech.
Our home is our haven. But it's often the place where our
families are most vulnerable to injury. A recent survey found

If you're booking a trip, chances are you'll be offered a travel
insurance policy. But how do you know if travel insurance
is worth the extra money? Policies typically protect you

against some of the following: Trip cancellation or trip
interruption in the event of an illness. Trip delay due to
inclement weather. Medical expenses, including emergency
evacuation expenses, and baggage loss. It's critical you read the fine print. Prices for
travel insurance are based on the cost of the trip. Only you can decide if it's worth the
extra money. It's also important to check your homeowners and health insurance policies.
You may already have coverage for some of the things included in travel insurance.

We've all heard the old saying "You Are What You Eat", and
on this week's reference desk we take a look at the Perricone
Prescription by dermatologist Nicholas Perricone. His guiding
principle is to reduce inflammation at the cellular level, which
Perricone believes causes the skin to age and is also linked to
degenerative disease. Perricone suggests that protein and
some fat is essential for everyone. He is especially keen on
the benefits of fish-you better like salmon. Certain foods high
in carbohydrates such as cereals, breads, bananas are taboo
in this plan because of their high sugar index. Besides hitting
on the importance of fitness when it comes to healthy vibrant
skin, Perricone has a mega list of recommended supplements,
which can be a bit hard to swallow for some people. Overall,
there is a wealth of good information in the book.
